CREATIVITY IS BACK 👀 Semi Permanent announces it's return

Now in its 19th year, Semi Permanent has announced the return of its annual creativity festival based in Sydney, Australia to be held at Carriageworks between 12-14 August 2021.

With an intent focus on supporting the local creative industry take on this brave-new-post-covid world, the theme of the festival is centred on ‘BRIDGES’. Placing an emphasis on the unexpected combinations, collaborations and conditions that can be used towards new, game-changing work.

Throughout the programme, keynote talks, panels, workshops and experiences, the biggest and brightest names in the business with teach pointed lessons on how those in the room can build new bridges between each other and the world around them.

For a more corporate audience, FUTURE STATE business panels will return to explore the new paradigm industries face in 2021. As multiple crises hit Australia in 2020—an ecological disaster, a health emergency and simultaneous reckonings on race and gender—now is the time to rebuild entire industries in a more equitable way, and some of the world’s best in business will present their vision for how this can be achieved from the top down.

For the creative world, the Semi Permanent stage will once again play host to a slew of local talent teaching important lessons in reaching further beyond to create something new. Starting with global activist apparel brand Patagonia, Star Wars and Marvel-associated visual effects house Industrial Light and Magic, and Aboriginal-owned and operated design studio Balarinji, expect a world-class line-up of design studios, artists, creatives, scientists, architects, filmmakers and independent designers, each offering advice and stories on building bridges towards a better future.

In a new creative collaboration, the festival’s identity and experience design has been completed by Perron—Roettinger, the design studio who have designed live shows and experiences for Rihanna’s Fenty, Travis Scott, Florence and the Machine, Drake, Yeezy and Stussy. And as a planned evolution of the Semi Permanent experience, the festival will also include a range of on-the-ground and off-site exhibitions and ideas presented by the world’s most innovative brands.

For the first time ever, Semi Permanent will offer an accessible digital experience presented in tandem with its live offering, details of which will be announced soon.

“Semi Permanent has always been at the forefront of an ever-changing world, but 2020 has exposed the need for more urgent conversations about where we are now vs. where we can and need to be. We’re so excited to see so many of our friends again at Carriageworks and present to them an experience that is inspiring, educational and deeply collaborative for us all.” says Murray Bell, CEO & Executive Creative Director of Semi Permanent.
